kids say the darnedest things... even in kuwait

i've been keeping track of some of the more amusing things my students have said to me this year. here it goes so far.

5th grade kamil: miss, what kind of mobile do you have?
me: oh it's a silver motorola
kamil: why do you not have the d and g?
me: sorry?
kamil: the dolce and gabbana phone?
me: oh well, i just don't like gold that much...
kamil: but miss, i would think you like it! your hair is gold!

one day when i was wearing pumas...
7th grade talal: miss... your shoes are not like normal teacher shoes. you need to wear more elegant shoes!

6th grade lulwa: your skin matches your name!

one day during lunch a student runs up to me, arms flailing
5th grade khaled: miss! we saw a caterpillar! and it's guts came out

7th grade alzain: miss, are you married?
me: i am not married
alzain: then why did you come to kuwait!?!

after finishing a mirror image activity in class
7th grade ahmed: you know why i'm sooooo good at that?
me: why?
ahmed: because i'm a professional
......... keep in mind this was said with a collar pop
we've also had some fun conversations about what my students think americans think about kuwait. i don't have the heart to tell them that most americans don't think about kuwait... or know exactly where it is.

my 2nd semester students

i've had my second semester classes a few times now and there are some interesting things about my students. first is i have a student named aladin. it is with great sadness that i must admit there is not a jasmine in that class, but there is a yasmeena. i sat them next to each other, it makes me smile everytime i look at them. i also have a boy named mubarak, which up until now i thought meant "happy" (as in eid mubarak = happy eid) and this boy certainly is not. i'll have to ask him what it means and inform him, if it in fact does mean happy, that he should live up to his name a bit more in drama class.

another interesting set of students is two of the 7th grade boys in my 9 student, half 6th grade, half 7th grade class. today they informed me that i should be "blushing" about them, one more so then the other b/c he "has the looks." i told them that i was not, and should not, be "blushing" about either of them. to which they said "aww, miss... age ain't nothing but a number." should be a fun semester...
