here are some pictures from my nine day trip to oman. we started out in muscat and relaxed there for a few days. then we drove in land to nizwa. we stayed in nizwa for three days and two nights. one of the days we drove out to bahla and jabrin. lots of ancient forts, castles, and mountains were seen. we didn't make it down south to see the turtles because all of the 4WD cars were rented and you need 4WD to make it there. oh well, a reason to go back...

more pictures will follow these

Bahla Fort

we drove out of nizwa for the day to go see the for in bahla. it is in the process of being fixed up as a UNESCO world heritage site and it is not exactly open to the public. they do, however, have a nice big parking lot that's all finished so when we got to the fort we just pulled in, parked and wandered around the outside of the fort. the fort is situated right next to the old town, which interestingly enough some people still live in. so amongst the ruins of the old town and the world heritage site their were window air conditioning units and satellite dishes.

the renovated, almost ready to be open portion of bahla fort

me taking a picture through the glass wall that separated an inside room from the outside. it's hard to see because of the reflection but there was a huge pile of rugs that they were getting ready to put down for decoration for when the fort opens.

what looks like ancient cave painting inside one of the rooms...

one of the doors with very elaborate carvings all around and over it

some loose wires in the ancient fort, hmmmmm... we think it was the work of the UNESCO people but who knows... Posted by Picasa
